Volunteer with Hospice

Volunteers are a vital part of the hospice program! Hospice programs are mandated to have a 5% equivalent of volunteer patient contact hours for all hours completed by paid staff. Volunteers are the glue which holds the hospice program together. All staff of hospice rely heavily on the help and support of volunteers.

Becoming a Volunteer

All volunteers, except those involved in fundraising, are required to complete a minimum of twelve hours of volunteer training. During this time, the Volunteer Coordinator can help you identify your strengths and interests to decide where you can best serve Hospice. Volunteer training sessions are held held throughout the year or can be completed by watching our training DVD's at your own pace.

Types of Volunteering

You do not have to work with patients to be a volunteer! No matter what your interests are, we have something for you, such as:

  • Administrative Volunteers Assist the staff with mailings, filing, organizing, maintaining records, answering phones, etc.
  • Patient/ Family Volunteers :   Provide companionship, read aloud, provide respite for caregivers, etc.
  • Bereavement Volunteers : Call, visit, and mail information to the bereaved, assist with grief groups, help with  Camp Sunshine .
  • Marketing Volunteers:   Put up signs & flyers, help make video and audio recordings, take pictures, help at health fairs
  • Fundraising Volunteers:   Help organize merchandise at bazaars, sell tickets and merchandise, make butterfly ornaments  at home , maintain materials at Hospice displays
  • Hospice Council Volunteers : Create, plan and help implement fundraisers, find new ways of promoting Hospice, recruit volunteers
  • Speakers Bureau : Educate the community on different aspects of Hospice by speaking to clubs, classes, churches, etc.
  • Donate something other than your time!

By choosing one or more of these ways to volunteer , you will be helping Hospice grow and prosper in your community.  Look under the downloads section to the right, for applications. Fill one out and contact the volunteer coordinator in your county:
